The effort is part of President Joe Biden's push to get as many American vaccinated as possible, including younger Americans who have been receiving the vaccine at lower rates. Colleges, universities, and graduate schools participating in the challenge have agreed to: 1. Engage every student, faculty, and staff member. Make sure every member of the campus community knows they are eligible for vaccine and has resources to find one. 2. Organize the college community. Lead the way by identifying champions for vaccine efforts across campus and implementing a plan to get as many members of the college community vaccinated as possible. 3. Deliver vaccine access for all. Meet the community where it is: bring vaccines on-site, and make it easy for students, staff, and faculty to get vaccinated sites nearby them this summer. News June 2, 2021 Chaplain Aida Mansoor Appointed to Hate Crimes Advisory Council Chaplain Aida Mansoor, Director of Field Education, has been appointed to the state's newly formed Connecticut Hates Crimes Advisory Council. Gov. Ned Lamont announced the members of the council, which was mandated by a new state law, on June 1, 2021. The council will be "responsible for encouraging and coordinating programs that increase community awareness and reporting of hate crimes and to combat such crimes. It also can make recommendations for legislation concerning hate crimes, including recommendations on restitution for victims, community service designed to remedy damage caused by any such crime, and additional alternative sentencing programs for first-time offenders and juvenile offenders." In his announcement, Governor Lamont said: “Nobody should ever have to fear being the victim of the crime for being the person they are, and it is unconscionable that people continue to be targeted throughout our country because of the color of their skin, the religion they practice, the person they love, their country of birth, or any other personal attributes that identify who they are. I appreciate the willingness of this diverse group of members who have volunteered to serve on this council and deliver their insights so that we can establish policies that prevent these crimes from happening in the first place and ensure the appropriate actions are taken in the event that we are faced with crisis in the future.” The council is administered within the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney. After a greeting from the new Chair of the Board of Trustees, Clare Feldman, President Joel N. Lohr gave his welcome. "Let me begin by taking a moment to congratulate you in the midst of what has been a trying time. This event would not be real if I did not recognize that your achievement today has come through a great deal of hardship — sweat, tears, and loss. I extend my sincerest sympathies to those of you who have lost loved ones to the coronavirus pandemic. I also want to acknowledge and affirm my own commitment, and the commitment of Hartford Seminary, to work every day to overcome our other pandemic of systemic racism and racial inequities in our country.
